Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP)

Eligible applicants include farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners. EQIP supports the implementation of conservation practices that address natural resource concerns, such as improving water and air quality, conserving water, increasing soil health, reducing erosion, improving wildlife habitat, and mitigating drought and weather volatility. Producers must apply by state-specific ranking dates to be considered for the current funding cycle. Applicants must contact their local NRCS office to begin the process. Some producers may qualify for advance payment. Historically underserved producers (including socially disadvantaged, beginning, limited resource, and veteran farmers and ranchers) are also eligible under provisions of the 2018 Farm Bill.

EQIP provides financial assistance for the implementation of conservation practices. The level of financial assistance and cost share percentages may vary by state and conservation practice. Producers may also qualify for advance payments in certain circumstances. The program operates on a continuous application basis, but applicants must meet state-specific ranking deadlines to be considered for the current funding cycle.

Applications for EQIP are accepted on a continuous basis. However, to be considered for the current funding cycle, applicants must apply by state-specific ranking dates. To apply, contact your local NRCS office. An NRCS conservation planner will schedule a visit to your property to discuss your goals and develop a conservation plan.
